Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has provided an update on three key players’ injuries and expressed optimism about Cody Gakpo’s potential return to action. Gakpo, who sustained an injury after scoring against Tottenham Hotspur, is recovering well and could be back after the international break.
In his pre-match press conference ahead of the Brighton game, Klopp also mentioned the status of Thiago Alcântara and Stefan Bajčetić. Thiago has faced setbacks in his rehabilitation but is still working towards his return, while Bajčetić’s situation is also uncertain.
Regarding Gakpo’s progress, Klopp stated, “Gakpo has a good chance that he will come back [after the international break]. Already out of the brace, he walks normal around here.”
With both Gakpo and Diogo Jota unavailable for the upcoming match against Brighton, Liverpool will have to make adjustments in their lineup. Klopp also praised Ryan Gravenberch, highlighting his technical skills and adaptability within the team.
Klopp acknowledged the challenge Brighton poses as one of the best-coached teams in the league, emphasizing that Liverpool expects a tough game.
In the absence of Gakpo and Jota, the Liverpool front line is likely to feature Luis Díaz and Darwin Núñez alongside Mohamed Salah. In midfield, Gravenberch could potentially step in for the suspended Curtis Jones, with Wataru Endō as another option to strengthen the center of the pitch. This would allow Alexis Mac Allister to play a more natural role as a number eight.
