Following Team USA’s disappointing performance at the FIBA World Cup, where a youthful roster failed to secure a medal, attention quickly shifted to the potential lineup for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
LeBron James, the iconic figure of the Los Angeles Lakers, promptly expressed interest in representing America at the Games. His teammate, Anthony Davis, also emerged as a potential addition, alongside several other elite stars.
As NBA training camps kick off across the league, discussions about Olympic commitments have been initiated with players. Phoenix Suns standout Kevin Durant and Golden State Warriors’ superstar Stephen Curry have already committed to Team USA. However, the participation of the Lakers’ dynamic duo remains uncertain.
LeBron James addressed the possibility during Lakers Media Day, indicating his interest while emphasizing the need to assess his physical condition at the end of the season. LeBron acknowledged that, given the talent available, he might assume a less demanding role on the team.
Anthony Davis, on the other hand, awaits an official invitation from Team USA. He made it clear in an interview with Spectrum SportsNet that he would gladly accept the opportunity to represent his country again, citing his previous limited involvement when stars like LeBron, Kobe Bryant, Chris Paul, and Carmelo Anthony dominated the roster. Davis’s inclusion would address Team USA’s size and physicality concerns, which plagued them during the FIBA World Cup.
Despite their potential Olympic aspirations, LeBron James considers Anthony Davis the face of the Lakers. In an interview, he expressed his belief that Davis deserves recognition alongside the franchise’s greats whose jerseys hang in the rafters. While the future may hold Olympic glory, for now, James and Davis are fully dedicated to the upcoming Lakers season and the pursuit of another championship.
