Liverpool’s Continued Pursuit of January Transfer Targets
Liverpool’s determination to strengthen their squad in the upcoming January transfer window remains unwavering, even after their significant summer spending spree.
Despite the ongoing controversy surrounding Liverpool’s disallowed goal against Tottenham Hotspur, which has led to calls for a replay from Jurgen Klopp, the club’s transfer strategists have been tirelessly scouting for fresh talent to enhance their squad.
While Liverpool has enjoyed success in securing new signings, they have faced a setback in their pursuit of one particular player. London World reports that Kaoru Mitoma has reached an agreement to extend his contract with Brighton & Hove Albion, committing to the club for another five years.
Previously, both Liverpool and Manchester City had displayed strong interest in Mitoma in recent months. However, the Japanese winger has chosen to turn down their advances in favor of staying with Brighton. His new contract is said to be worth £80,000 per week, with manager Roberto De Zerbi playing a pivotal role in the negotiations.
Mitoma is enthusiastic about continuing his development under the guidance of the Italian coach at the Amex Stadium, particularly as Brighton competes in the Europa League this season, marking their maiden European campaign.
Mitoma, who made his mark in the Premier League last season, scoring seven goals and providing five assists, is renowned for his exceptional dribbling skills and close ball control.
The 26-year-old predominantly operates from the left wing, contributing significantly to Brighton’s attacking prowess. Liverpool’s pursuit of Mitoma was likely hampered by the uncertainty regarding his potential playing time, given the Reds’ already formidable left-wing options, including Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez, and Diogo Jota.
