Paul Scholes and Rio Ferdinand were furious after Manchester United’s humiliating loss to Galatasaray in the Champions League on Tuesday night. Galatasaray won the match 2-0. After missing a penalty kick a few minutes earlier, Mauro Icardi scored the game-winning goal in extra time to give his team a 3-2 victory over the Red Devils, who had been humiliated at home by their Turkish opponents.
Wilfried Zaha scored the equalizer against his former team 17 minutes after Rasmus Hojlund gave United the lead with his first goal at Old Trafford. Zaha’s goal came after Hojlund had given United the lead. The second goal was scored by Hojlund just a few minutes after the hour mark. He entered the other team’s territory from the halfway point and sent the ball in from close range.
After the clear error committed by Andre Onana, the guests were able to level the score once more courtesy to Kerem Akturkoglu. Icardi subsequently missed the ensuing penalty kick that was awarded to him. The former Inter Milan striker made amends for an earlier mistake he made by putting the ball into the corner with only nine minutes remaining to play, after the home team had lost focus on the game.
After the match was over, Scholes and Ferdinand, who had been working as pundits for TNT Sports at Old Trafford, felt ashamed of themselves. In light of the fact that none of the three defenders were able to prevent Galatasaray’s second goal of the evening from being scored by Akturkoglu, the latter directed additional criticism in the direction of Sofyan Amrabat, Raphael Varane, and Victor Lindelof.

Rio Ferdinand and Paul Scholes both expressed their displeasure with Manchester United’s performance against Galatasaray.
“Amrabat is not in his preferred position, but the lad turns him around,” Scholes remarked after the game. “He just gets spun.”
“I don’t know where the hell Varane is going, and Lindelof just looks lost in the middle,” the commentator said, “and they were so open in the middle of that defensive area.”

Scholes went on to challenge Marcus Rashford’s ability to make the appropriate judgments when attacking the ball, citing an instance in which Rashford passed the ball on to Bruno Fernandes rather than taking a shot when he was clear through on goal. Rashford was criticized by Scholes for this mistake.

Rashford made the decision to not finish when he was in the situation when he was facing the goalie Muslera. Instead, Rashford crossed the field to find Bruno Fernandes and transferred the ball to him. However, there was little strength in the pass, and the defender of the opposing team quickly blocked it.
“I think the Marcus Rashford of last season scores here, there’s no doubt about it because he had confidence then,” continued Scholes. “There’s no doubt about it because he scored here last season.”
“It’s a good pass from [Christian] Eriksen, who had a good second half, but I saw Marcus coming in, and he’s always thinking about Fernandes, but the trouble is that he’s not actually thinking about how quick the right-back is behind him.”
Ferdinand, on the other hand, criticized the defenders for Manchester United for losing focus soon after the Red Devils took the lead not once, but twice. He said this was unacceptable behavior. He stated that “as a kid, you’re told that you’re the most vulnerable after just scoring and that happened twice tonight, we fell asleep.” He was referring to the fact that this had been told to him when he was younger.
“There were times when it appeared way too simple, and they went through us like a hot knife through butter, and it’s embarrassing. This is the Champions League; it’s not like we’re playing in some amateur tournament. a lack of positional awareness as well as a lack of spatial awareness. At this level, you are going to get penalized for that, and they got punished for it tonight.
