Curtis Jones lost his appeal against the red card he received during Liverpool’s eventful 2-1 defeat to Tottenham. Initially shown a yellow card for a challenge on Yves Bissouma, VAR intervention led to it being upgraded to a red card in the 26th minute. Liverpool appealed the decision but learned on Tuesday that their appeal was unsuccessful. As a result, Jones will serve a three-match ban in the Premier League. Although he may still play against Union Saint-Gilloise in the Europa League on Thursday, he will be unavailable for the Brighton game on Sunday.

Diogo Jota is also suspended for the Brighton match after being sent off against Spurs. Jota received two yellow cards within two minutes in the second half, reducing Liverpool to nine men. He will serve a one-match suspension, making him eligible to return for the Merseyside Derby on October 21. Jones, however, will miss the Merseyside Derby as well as the Premier League game against Nottingham Forest on October 29. He will be eligible to return against Luton on November 5.

These suspensions are significant setbacks for Klopp, who is already contending with injuries. Cody Gakpo suffered an injury in the first half against Spurs and was substituted at half-time. He was later seen limping and wearing a brace, adding to Klopp’s woes.

In addition to the suspensions and injuries, Liverpool is without the injured pair of Stefan Bajcetic and Thiago Alcantara. Bajcetic, who recently returned from a long-term injury, has encountered a minor calf problem, and the club is taking a cautious approach to his recovery. Thiago continues to be sidelined with a long-term hip problem that has kept him out for the entire season thus far.
