Liverpool Faces Brighton Without In-Form Striker Cody Gakpo
Liverpool will have to cope without their in-form striker, Cody Gakpo, for their upcoming match against Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday. The Seagulls will be facing Europa League action against Marseille on Thursday before hosting Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool at the Amex Stadium with a 2 pm kick-off.
Gakpo, aged 24, has been on a scoring spree with three goals in his last five matches for Liverpool. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during the team’s 2-1 loss to Tottenham last Saturday. Although a scan revealed no major damage, Gakpo is expected to miss Liverpool’s next two fixtures, which include Thursday’s Europa League Group E clash against Royal Union Saint-Gilloise at Anfield and the away trip to Brighton.
This setback is a blow for the £37 million signing from PSV Eindhoven. Furthermore, Liverpool will also be without Diogo Jota, as the Portuguese attacker was sent off with two bookings during the match against Spurs. The Reds are hopeful that Curtis Jones, who also received a red card in the same game, will be available to play following an appeal.
