Are the Boston Celtics Eyeing Reggie Bullock After Jrue Holiday Trade?
Despite the Boston Celtics making significant offseason moves, including the acquisition of Jrue Holiday from the Portland Trail Blazers, there’s still speculation about their next potential target.
After the Celtics executed a three-team trade involving Marcus Smart for Kristaps Porzingis and secured Jaylen Brown with a supermax contract extension, their pursuit of Jrue Holiday raised eyebrows. With substantial financial commitments already in place, there’s uncertainty about another major signing. However, ESPN NBA insider Kevin Pelton raised an intriguing point regarding the Celtics’ next move.
Pelton mentioned the possibility of the Celtics filling their roster spot with a free agent but pointed out new restrictions on teams above the luxury-tax apron signing players waived midseason who were previously making more than the non-taxpayer midlevel exception ($12.4 million). This led to speculation about the Celtics’ interest in Reggie Bullock, who had agreed to a buyout with the San Antonio Spurs.
The Athletic’s John Hollinger also discussed the potential pursuit of Bullock, and NBA reporter David Aldridge concurred, suggesting that Boston might target the 32-year-old swingman. Aldridge even raised the possibility of the Celtics exploring a trade for Delon Wright of the Washington Wizards, given their available assets.
While the Celtics boast a formidable roster featuring players like Jayson Tatum, Al Horford, Derrick White, and the recent addition of Jrue Holiday, depth in the frontcourt could be a concern. As Boston aims to contend for a championship in the upcoming season, President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens is expected to leave no stone unturned in fine-tuning the roster for a title run.
