Just when Liverpool thought their fortunes couldn’t plummet further following the controversial loss to Tottenham Hotspur at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, troubling news has emerged concerning Cody Gakpo.
Liverpool fans, brace yourselves for the Cody Gakpo injury update. To compound Liverpool’s woes, reports suggest that Gakpo could be sidelined for an extended period, possibly several weeks.
Dutch journalist Rik Elfrink took to Twitter to share the unfortunate news, indicating that the £120,000-per-week forward won’t feature for the Netherlands during the upcoming international break in October.
Following the match against Tottenham on Saturday evening, Liverpool’s manager, Jurgen Klopp, expressed his concerns about Gakpo’s injury, stating that the player “wore a brace,” as reported on Liverpool’s official website.
The 24-year-old forward sustained an injury after netting Liverpool’s equalizer at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, following a challenge by Destiny Udogie. Gakpo was subsequently substituted at half-time.
In the current Premier League season, Gakpo has tallied two goals in five starts and two substitute appearances. If he indeed faces several weeks on the sidelines, it will undoubtedly be a significant setback for both Liverpool and the player himself.
