Lando Norris, contracted with McLaren until the end of 2025, is attracting attention from potential rivals, especially considering Audi’s entry into Formula 1 in 2026. Sky Sports F1 reporter Craig Slater believes that Norris, who is highly valued, could be of interest to Audi.
At just 23 years old, Norris is one of the most talented drivers in Formula 1. He has been with McLaren for five seasons, achieving nine podium finishes, with four of them coming in the last seven races due to McLaren’s recent improvements.
While Norris is currently with McLaren, there is interest from other teams, notably Red Bull, where Dr. Helmut Marko has openly considered the possibility of Norris joining the team. However, Norris’s contract seemingly lacks an exit clause, meaning any potential team would need to pay a significant fee to secure his services.
In Slater’s view, Norris would be valued at £100 million, comparable to a top-tier footballer. This high valuation means that teams like Red Bull would need to pay a substantial sum to acquire him from McLaren.
Despite Norris’s talent, Slater does not foresee him leaving McLaren before his contract expires. He believes that none of the leading teams are currently in a position where they urgently require Norris, except for a competitive package from Audi, should they enter the sport.
“Is there a team out there that needs to sign Norris? Maybe not right now,” Slater continued. “Ferrari seem to be well enough covered. Mercedes look like they will continue to work with Lewis Hamilton and George Russell for the years ahead. Max Verstappen is firmly ensconced at Red Bull.”
