Unfiltered Roundtable: How can Pats ride out of Dallas with a win?

The Patriots are now focused on traveling to Dallas to play the 2-1 Cowboys after winning their first game of the 2023 season against the Jets. After beginning the season with commanding victories over the Giants and Jets by a combined score of 70-10, Dallas is coming off a depressing defeat to the Arizona Cardinals and will be seeking to get back on track. The Cowboys are loaded with talent once again, highlighted by Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, and Micah Parsons, who will provide the Patriots with yet another challenging set of matchups.

How can the Patriots equal their season record at 2-2 and secure a victory? This week’s Unfiltered Roundtable features opinions from Patriots Unfiltered authors.

With a dominant defensive performance last week, the Patriots finally entered the victory column. Can they do to the Jets what they did to Dak Prescott?

Certainly. It may even appear more appealing. As of this writing, the Cowboys offensive line is severely injured. They may thus be depending on the run even more than they already have. To the Patriots defense, it is welcome news. Dallas will probably score more points than ten, but the Patriots attack should be able to outscore them by a considerable amount. -Arnie Kirsch

Considering how much more skilled Prescott is than Zach Wilson, it will be a difficult task. Having said that, I think the Patriots defense can contain the Cowboys’ rushing game and contain the opposition. -Marco Perillo

The Jets offense was, in my opinion, a nice warm-up for what they’ll play on Sunday. Though the Cowboys are clearly far more skilled, they have some philosophical similarities as well, with offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer having a similar background to Shanahan. The Patriots defense should play more basic defense, early-down split-zone schemes, and third-down exotics, in my opinion. -Lazar Evan

In a defeat to Arizona last week, the Cowboys’ offensive line sustained injuries. If that’s still the case, I have no doubts that the Patriots defense can contain Dak and CeeDee Lamb and put on a show that makes the NFL take attention. -Francis Alexander

By limiting the Cowboys’ rushing game and efficiently running the ball against Dallas’ defense, the Patriots can replicate their performance against Dak Prescott, as they did against the Jets. The Arizona Cardinals’ rushing backs were difficult for the Cowboys to stop, but they also carried the ball effectively and used up a lot of time in week three. Though it will begin with victory in the trenches, the Patriots will need to find success on the ground. —Mara Brown

I believe they can, but they need to be careful to stop the run game in spite of their injured defensive line. Will Davon Godchaux be prepared for action and how healthy is he? While Lamb is a threat, he will be much less lethal if the Cowboys are often restrained. -Dussault, Mike
