Max Verstappen, the star driver for Red Bull, has identified the key strength that propelled the team to win its sixth Formula 1 Constructors’ Championship in 2023. Throughout the season, Red Bull displayed dominance, securing victory at the Japanese Grand Prix.
Red Bull’s remarkable performance in 2023 saw them claim victory in 15 out of 16 races, often with substantial leads. Max Verstappen himself contributed significantly to the team’s success, securing 13 wins, including an impressive streak of 10 consecutive victories spanning from Miami to Italy. Only a challenging weekend in Singapore prevented Red Bull from achieving a clean sweep of race wins.
Max Verstappen is on the verge of securing his third consecutive driver’s title with the team at the upcoming race in Qatar. This achievement comes in his seventh full season with Red Bull, during which he has amassed 48 race wins and established numerous records since the 2021 season.
Red Bull’s dominance can be attributed to a simple yet crucial trait, according to Verstappen. He stated, “I think just everyone knowing their role very well and, of course, being good at what they do.” Strong communication within the team and effective collaboration have played pivotal roles in achieving such remarkable results.
One notable aspect of Red Bull’s success in 2023 has been the absence of a consistent main challenger. Throughout the season, different teams, including Mercedes, Ferrari, Aston Martin, and McLaren, have taken turns as the closest competitors to Red Bull.
This dynamic nature of the competition was acknowledged by Team Principal Christian Horner, who noted, “The field has been moving around behind us, one week it’s McLaren, next week it’s Ferrari, next week it’s Mercedes.” Despite limited car development, Red Bull’s effective developments have maintained a significant advantage throughout the season.
