Liverpool Secures EFL Cup Round Four Berth with Stunning 3-1 Comeback Victory Over Leicester City
Liverpool has advanced to the fourth round of the EFL Cup with an impressive comeback win over Championship leaders Leicester City at Anfield.
Leicester took an early lead in the third minute through Kasey McAteer, capitalizing on a swift counter-аttаck following a Kostas Tsimikas turnover.
Despite being behind at halftime, Jurgen Klopp’s team showed resilience in the second half, with goals from Cody Gakpo, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Diogo Jota sealing Liverpool’s place in the last 16 of the competition.
Liverpool dominated possession from the start, but Leicester shocked the home crowd with their early goal.
Klopp’s halftime pep talk had a quick impact, as Gakpo found the net in the 48th minute, leveling the score. Then, just five minutes after coming on as a substitute, Szoboszlai unleashed a thunderous shot into the top-left corner, giving Liverpool the lead.
Although Liverpool had the advantage, Leicester posed a threаt on the counter, with Wilfred Ndidi making a promising run before being stopped by the Reds’ defense.
Liverpool secured their spot in the next round in the 89th minute when Jota calmly finished after a pass from Jarell Quansah.
Liverpool has now won their last four matches by a 3-1 scoreline and will aim to extend their unbeaten streak when they face Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Saturday.
Leicester City will turn their attention to the Championship until January after their EFL Cup exit, with an upcoming match against Blackburn Rovers on Sunday.
