Novak Djokovic, known worldwide for his tennis prowess with 24 Grand Slam titles to his name, showcased his golf skills in a remarkable fashion during the Ryder Cup All-Star match held in Rome. The Serbian superstar, playing under Team Monty led by captain Colin Montgomerie, traded in his tennis racket for golf clubs.
Taking the first tee-off at the Marco Simone Golf and Country Club, Djokovic displayed remarkable comfort and skill with the golf clubs. His powerful drive on the 16th hole impressed both the crowd and himself to the extent that he celebrated with Cristiano Ronaldo’s signature move, one sports legend acknowledging another.
Reflecting on his incredible shot, Djokovic exclaimed, “Oh my gosh, I don’t know what to tell you. It was an incredible feeling to hear the echo of the crowd around the green and to know that it had landed on the green. It was one of the best shots I’ve ever made.”
Before his initial swing, Djokovic playfully brandished a tennis racket, eliciting laughter from the Italian crowd. Despite some playful jeers during his practice shots, he commenced the Ryder Cup All-Star match with a strong and impressive swing.
Djokovic was partnered with Kipp Popert, the winner of the G4D Tour (Golf for the Disabled), against Team Pavin, consisting of F1 star Carlos Sainz and Italian golfer Tommaso Perrino. Notably, former footballer Gareth Bale, who previously played for Tottenham, Real Madrid, and Wales, also represented Team Monty. However, Bale’s unfortunate history of injuries persisted, as he arrived at the match with a sore back.
