Mallorca 2-2 Barcelona: Player ratings, Ter Stegen disappointed, rookie played superficially in the losing draw

After taking over the top spot in the La Liga standings this week, Barcelona decided to play their second midweek game in as many weeks on the island of Mallorca. This allowed them to further solidify their status as the best team in the league.

Xavi fielded a new team for the Catalans despite the fact that a few of regulars were given the night off and Frenkie de Jong was unable to play due to an injury. Despite this, the Catalans had a difficult night on a wet pitch and surrendered points in a 2-2 draw after allowing two dreadful goals.

After the adrenaline rush they experienced against Celta Vigo on Saturday, Barcelona desperately needed a convincing result, but it was not to be, as they were unable to string together attacks with the same efficiency as they had in the previous two weeks until it was too late.

The player ratings are in from a trip to Son Moix, which was full of unusual and unsatisfactory experiences.

Marc Andre ter Stegen: 2/10

The German looked like a completely different player tonight, with no shades of the in-form shot-stopper we have seen over the last season and a bit.

The first goal scored by Mallorca was made possible by a startling pass made by him, and the second goal was scored by the hosts when he recklessly raced out to meet a long ball that appeared like it would be a simple task for the defenders to handle.

Joao Cancelo: 5.5/10

A strange outing from the Portuguese right-back, who did not get things clicking as well as he has in the past few games and did not win duels with his usual efficiency.

Ronald Araujo: 6/10

Was forced to cover for his defensive partner and was dragged out of position more than he usually would be.

Made some important challenges but ultimately could do nothing about Mallorca’s two goals.

Inigo Martinez: 3/10

His first start for Barcelona was quite the horror show, as he gave the ball away cheaply on a number of occasions and was unable to hold his ground effectively.

Alejandro Balde: 5/10

Tried to get things going down the left flank but was kept fairly quiet all game by a combination of Antonio Sanchez and Giovanni Gonzalez.

Gavi: 8/10

The brightest spark in the Barcelona lineup on the evening. Gavi was superb on the ball, taking on and beating swarms of Mallorca players, driving through lines with the ball and running relentlessly as usual.

Ilkay Gundogan: 5/10

Had some good moments but was unable to impose himself on the game and dictate the tempo the way we know he can.

Oriol Romeu: 7/10

Very strong in his challenges, tracked back exceptionally well, and did not make too many errors in the middle of the park.

Raphinha: 7/10

Scored the scorching equaliser to level the scoreline and was generally pretty involved in Barcelona’s attacks. Provided good width and also made some important recoveries.

Ferran Torres: 6/10

The Spaniard had a few good moments and also had a chance to get on the scoresheet, but could not make a proper

Joao Felix: 5.5/10

Another in-form player who could not make much of an impact on this occasion. Hit the post with a fierce effort in the second half, but could not conjure up much else.

Added a layer of threat in the Mallorca box after coming on for Ferran Torres and a clever dummy ensured Fermin could finish off the move to level the scoreline.

Lamine Yamal: 7/10

A terrific cameo from the teenager saw him bring a ton of attacking threat to the fore, as he almost earned a penalty and started the move leading to Barcelona’s equaliser.

Fermin Lopez: 7/10

Another bright appearance from the 20-year-old saw him grab his first official goal for Barcelona as he slotted home the all-important equaliser and linked up well with Yamal.

Jules Kounde: 6/10

Shored up the backline after replacing Inigo for the last 12 minutes.
