Man Utd won their opening match of the League Cup against Crystal Palace

Despite not using their reserve team, reigning champion Manchester United won the third round match against Crystal Palace by a score of 3-0.

Man United went into their encounter against Palace feeling confident after they were able to slake their need for a win in September by claiming victory over Burnley the previous weekend. The “Red Devils” are excluded from competing in the second round of the Federation Cup because they are playing in the Champions League. As a result, this is their first match on the road to defend their Federation Cup championship title.

The head coach, Erik ten Hag, has established a number of pillars and tried out new strategies. Sofyan Amrabat, a rookie, had his first start and was moved to left back, while Mason Mount, who had been out with an injury, returned to action. During the time that Anthony Martial was playing in the slot, other players on the bench, such as Hannibal Mejbri, Facundo Pellistri, Alejandro Garnacho, and Harry Maguire, were given opportunities to contribute.

On the other hand, Palace did not field the strongest squad possible. Neither side did. In addition to goalkeeper Sam Johnstone, head coach Roy Hodgson selected Eberechi Eze, Joachim Andersen, and Marc Guehi. Because of this, goalkeeper Dean Henderson got to play against Manchester United, the club that gave him his start in the sport. However, Henderson was only able to play for 19 minutes before becoming injured and having to leave the field.

Man United exerted pressure on the competition from the very opening of the match. After a great deal of work, they were finally able to get on the scoreboard when several younger players worked together to create a coordinated situation. Diogo Dalot was able to score for Garnacho thanks to an overlap created by Pellistri. Not long after that, Dalot could have doubled the lead for the home team if he had taken the situation more seriously and capitalized on it more well.

However, it took Manchester United only another six minutes to score their second goal after the first one. Casemiro leaped to a great height and moved for the far corner immediately after Mason Mount took the corner kick, making it impossible for Johnstone to reach the ball.

Casemiro should be able to find mental relief through the completion of this aim. The former Real Madrid player came under fire early in the season for his lackluster play, which continued throughout the campaign. Casemiro, though, displayed his class in a significant game a week ago by scoring a pair of goals against Bayern Munich in the Champions League. The Brazilian midfielder continued to demonstrate the danger he poses on set pieces by playing well in this match.

Casemiro not only found the back of the net, but he also provided an assist for Anthony Martial’s goal that opened the scoring for the second half. His hanging ball to the far post had exactly the right amount of force for Nathaniel Clyne not to be able to stop it, which made room for his teammates to finish off the play. Whoscored gave Casemiro an 8.86 out of ten for his performance, which contributed to him being selected as the best player of the match.

Hodgson continued to send pillars onto the field in the remaining time of the second half in an effort to find an equalizer. Despite this, Palace’s attack has not gone off without a hitch. They played six games in the Premier League and managed to score only six goals. Both of the noteworthy shots taken by the visiting team were taken by the substitute striker Jean-Philippe Mateta, but Andre Onana was able to block them both.

In the seventh round of the Premier League, the rematch between Manchester United and Crystal Palace will take place at Old Trafford this coming Saturday.
