Brazil and Barcelona legend, Romario: I’m jealous of Lionel Messi’s position – He’s so great

The recognition of Lionel Messi as Barcelona’s greatest player by the press is something that Romario, a former superstar for the club, does not agree with. He claimed that he was more talented than Messi when they were both playing for Barcelona.

Romario claims that he is Barcelona’s best striker, while Messi is a fantastic midfielder, according to the article.

Fans do not appear to have any doubts about Messi’s position as Barcelona’s all-time greatest player, despite the fact that the Catalan squad has had many hero stars throughout its history. Messi’s splendor stands out among all of them.

Messi’s status has not been challenged by anyone, including Johan Cruyff, the Flying Dutch trio (Marco van Basten, Ruud Gullit, and Frank Rijkaard), or even the Brazilian superstars Romario, Ronaldo Nazario, and Ronaldinho. Messi’s position is uncontested.

However, Romario, a 57-year-old former striker, is not convinced by Messi’s status as the number one player, since he believes that his playing career at Barcelona has been underappreciated. Romario is not convinced by Messi’s position as the number one player.

The following is a quote from an interview that Romario gave to ESPN: “We play in different spots. Messi is the finest player in his position. Period. I am the most qualified candidate for this job.”

Before Romario returned to Flamengo in 1995, he led the attack for Barcelona for a glorious 18 months between the years 1993 and 1995. The only reason he left Barcelona was because of a rift in his relationship with coach Johan Cruyff.

In addition to being a member of the team that won the La Liga championship in 1994, Romario was also selected as the FIFA World Player of the Year due to the fact that he scored 30 goals in 33 games.

He also claimed that only three people from Pep Guardiola’s legendary Barcelona squad could have found a place in Cruyff’s 1994 Dream Team.
