David Coulthard Expresses Displeasure with Lewis Hamilton’s Remarks on Max Verstappen’s Teammates
David Coulthard has voiced his discontent with Lewis Hamilton following comments made by the British racing driver, where he suggested that Max Verstappen hasn’t had challenging teammates. Hamilton made this assertion in an interview with Sky Sports ahead of the Italian Grand Prix, where he also listed the teammates he had faced throughout his Formula 1 career.
Despite Hamilton having encountered strong competition within his own team over the years, he criticized the abilities of drivers such as Carlos Sainz, Daniel Ricciardo, and Pierre Gasly when discussing Verstappen’s competition.
Coulthard Disagrees: Not Accurate
Coulthard expressed his disagreement, saying, “I know Lewis had made a comment that he does not have tough teammates.” He clarified that this perspective is not accurate. Coulthard emphasized that the true measure is not solely based on who your teammate is but on the quality of your competition.
In the case of Max Verstappen, his most significant competitor has undeniably been Lewis Hamilton. Coulthard commended their intense on-track battles and outstanding performances, regardless of fans’ affiliations with different teams. Whether someone supports Mercedes or Ferrari, the rivalry between Verstappen and Hamilton has been exceptional.
Hamilton recently extended his contract with Mercedes for two more years, keeping him with the team until the end of the 2025 season as he continues his pursuit of a record-breaking eighth world championship.
Coulthard Predicts More Title Challenges for Hamilton with Mercedes
Coulthard also offered his prediction that Lewis Hamilton is poised for another title challenge with Mercedes before he eventually moves on to new horizons in his career.”Lewis has demonstrated his exceptional skill,”
Coulthard stated. “As a seven-time world champion, he could have achieved even more – perhaps nine or even ten titles. The reality is that he’s already secured those seven championships, and he’s committed to another two years. His hunger and dedication have been unwavering, from his early days in karting to his current status. Now, it remains to be seen what Mercedes provides him in terms of a competitive car.”
