Scotland’s path to securing their spot at Euro 2024 will extend until at least October. Despite their fantastic performance in the qualifying campaign, they will have to wait a bit longer for official confirmation.
After an impressive 3-0 victory in Cyprus, Scotland continued their perfect start in Group A under manager Steve Clarke. They could have been the first team to secure their place in the competition if Norway and Georgia had drawn in Oslo.
However, Norwegian stars Erling Haaland and Martin Odegaard secured a 2-1 victory for the hosts, delaying Scotland’s qualification. To confirm their second consecutive Euros spot, Scotland now needs to defeat Spain in Seville on October 12 in the next round of fixtures.
Mathematically, the Scots require two more points to guarantee a top-two finish in the group, although a draw should be sufficient considering their superior goal difference over Norway and Georgia.
As of now, Scotland leads Group A with a perfect record of five wins from five matches, while Spain sits in second place, trailing by six points, although they have a game in hand. Spain showcased their dominance with a 6-0 victory over Cyprus, following a 7-1 win against Georgia in Tbilisi just days earlier.
