Helmut Marko has responded strongly to recent comments from Lewis Hamilton and Toto Wolff of Mercedes, who downplayed Max Verstappen’s achievements in Formula 1. Red Bull has had an exceptional 2023 season, remaining undefeated so far and potentially maintaining a 100% win rate until the season’s end, which would be a historic first in F1.

Verstappen recently claimed his tenth consecutive F1 win at Monza, setting a new record. However, Hamilton and Wolff from Mercedes have not been impressed by Red Bull’s success or Verstappen’s records. Hamilton commented indifferently, saying, “I mean I don’t care about statistics in general, good for him.”

Wolff dismissed Verstappen’s record, considering it “irrelevant” and suitable only for Wikipedia, which he claimed “nobody reads anyway.” These comments from Mercedes drew criticism in the paddock, with pundits like Martin Brundle and Damon Hill questioning their derisive attitude.

Helmut Marko responded by noting the popularity of Wikipedia, saying, “Wikipedia is one of the most read mediums – maybe someone can tell Wolff.” Marko also emphasized the difference in approach between Red Bull and Mercedes, with Red Bull focused on their own performance and not engaging in storytelling.

Marko concluded, “We don’t worry about Mercedes as long as they are not a serious rival for us.” Red Bull team boss Christian Horner refrained from adding further controversy, praising Verstappen’s remarkable driving and emphasizing the importance of recognizing and applauding his achievements.
