Recent Speculation Connects Lando Norris to a Possible Future Move to Red Bull.
Lando Norris has stirred speculation about a potential switch to Red Bull by emphasizing that, despite McLaren giving him his rookie opportunity four years ago, he doesn’t owe them everything. Norris, widely recognized as one of Formula 1’s most talented drivers, has consistently delivered outstanding performances, fueling talk of a move to a top-tier team in the near future.
The 23-year-old has spent his entire F1 career with McLaren, initially joining them as a rookie in 2019 and securing a long-term contract until the end of 2025. In return, he has amassed over 500 points for the team and secured eight podium finishes.
Recently, there have been links between Norris and a potential Red Bull move, spurred by uncertainty regarding Sergio Perez’s long-term partnership with Max Verstappen. Norris has hinted that he’s open to seizing a better opportunity if it arises, but he stressed his contentment with his current team.
“I owe McLaren a lot, but I don’t owe them my life,” Norris stated to RaceFans. “Certainly, there have been discussions in the past, as is the case with every driver when a contract is nearing its end. McLaren has consistently emerged as one of the best options for me, both in the short and, I suppose, the long term. There have been moments when I could have left, but McLaren’s prospects seemed reasonably solid, like in 2020-21, and you’d question why I’d make such a move.
“There haven’t been many significantly better opportunities. There have been some possibilities here and there, but Ferrari and Mercedes were almost always locked in. Red Bull has always had something going on. There are always minor considerations, but McLaren has usually turned out to be the best choice, which is why I’m still here.
“Each year spent with the team adds to my desire to achieve more and more with McLaren, because I believe that will make the eventual success even more rewarding.”
It remains uncertain whether Norris will transition to Red Bull in the future, but it seems unlikely to occur at the conclusion of the current season. The reigning champions have indicated that Perez will remain until at least the end of 2024, suggesting that any change might only be feasible if Red Bull can negotiate an early termination of Norris’s contract with McLaren in the future.
