Jurgen Klopp Receives Early Boost as Key Trio Return from International Duty
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is set to receive a timely boost during the international break as three key players will return early from their national team commitments.
The trio includes summer signing Dominic Szoboszlai, along with Dutch stars Virgil van Dijk and Cody Gakpo, all of whom are expected to conclude their latest round of international fixtures on Sunday night this week.
Their early return provides them with a full week of training with Klopp in preparation for the resumption of the Premier League on September 16th.
Dominic Szoboszlai, the Hungarian ace, is scheduled to face Serbia in the Euro 2024 Qualifiers on Thursday afternoon, followed by a friendly match against the Czech Republic over the weekend. Hungary currently leads their group on goal difference, with Serbia in second place, both teams having accumulated seven points from two wins and a draw in their first three fixtures.
For Virgil van Dijk and Cody Gakpo of the Netherlands, they will compete against Greece in their Euro 2024 Qualifiers group tomorrow afternoon before a friendly match against the Republic of Ireland. The Netherlands is currently near the bottom of the group table, with one win and one loss, making a victory against Greece crucial for the Liverpool stars before their return to Merseyside.
Klopp will also see the return of several other international Liverpool players on Wednesday, while those from South America, such as Alexis Mac Allister, Darwin Nunez, Alisson, and Luis Diaz, are expected to return on Thursday due to their later fixtures that extend into Wednesday UK time.
Having Szoboszlai, van Dijk, and Gakpo back early will provide a significant boost to Klopp, along with other players who were not called up for international duty, such as Joe Gomez, Curtis Jones, and Joel Matip. This early return represents a positive change for Klopp, who has often expressed his reservations about the international break’s impact on domestic football.
