Alex Albon achieved his joint-best result of the 2023 season at the Italian Grand Prix, finishing in seventh place for Williams. While he was pleased with the outcome, Albon didn’t want to experience a similar race in the future.
Albon’s performance at Monza was not as straightforward as he had hoped, and he had to rely on Williams’ impressive straight-line speed to defend his position. Throughout the race, Lando Norris in a McLaren attempted to overtake Albon but couldn’t find a way past.
Reflecting on the race, Albon expressed his happiness with the result, considering the tough competition from Ferrari, Red Bull, and Mercedes. He acknowledged that the race was challenging, particularly due to the high track temperatures and the low downforce setup the team used.
Albon mentioned that the track conditions caused the tires to overheat more quickly, making it a battle of attrition. Despite the challenges, he managed to hold on to his position.
While Albon appreciated the competitiveness and excitement of the race, he hopes to avoid similar defensive battles in future races.
