Erling Haaland’s agent has responded to inquiries about Real Madrid’s rumored interest in the Manchester City striker.
Haaland has risen to stardom since joining Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund last summer. In his debut season at the Etihad Stadium, he netted an impressive 52 goals in 53 matches, helping The Citizens secure the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League titles.
Despite his recent success, there have been speculations that Haaland may leave the club in the coming years. In June, 90min reported that Manchester City is considering offering Haaland a new contract, one that would eliminate various release clauses from his existing contract, some of which are currently inactive.
Real Madrid, on the other hand, is currently without a marquee center forward after Karim Benzema’s departure to Saudi Pro League champions Al Ittihad this summer.
When asked by Spanish outlet El Chringuito about the possibility of Erling Haaland joining Real Madrid in 2024, Haaland’s agent, Rafaela Pimenta, responded, “The open door can mean a lot of things. Our players can have the feeling that they have their destiny in their hands.”
Pimenta had previously stressed that inserting various clauses into Haaland’s contract is a strategic move to empower her clients. She stated earlier this year, “When a player goes to a club, I do all I can to create a situation where the key is in their hands. If tomorrow you don’t want to be there anymore because you don’t like it, or if they don’t pay you well, or if your wife wants to live in Paris, well, you go, no? I don’t like it when the player has no freedom to decide. I have done all the contracts in this agency in 25 years. All of them. There wasn’t a single time when a player said ‘I want to go’ and they could not do it.”
She further discussed Haaland’s value, stating, “For me, Haaland is worth a billion, no one is going to pay that, but it’s the potential that he has when he arrives at a club. He brings with him fans, goals, results, professionalism, digital content, notoriety, sponsors… if you put all that together, his value includes a lot of things. But the price of a footballer, in reality, is set by a club. I know that no one is going to pay 700m for one player, but it’s very clear that Erling’s value when he arrives at a club is immense, it’s at least a billion.”
