Barcelona was able to successfully borrow two stars from the Portuguese national team on the final day of the summer transfer window in 2023. These stars were forward Joao Felix and defense Joao Cancelo.

Joao Felix’s signing with Barcelona was revealed via a film that the club uploaded on their website. The movie included articles in which the Portuguese player was quoted as saying, “I want to join Barcelona, it’s been my dream since I was a kid.”

During the summer transfer window in 2019, Felix made his move to Atletico for a fee of 120 million euros. However, the striker, who was only 23 years old, struggled to play consistently and was frequently injured. Despite playing in 131 matches for coach Simeone’s squad, he only contributed 34 goals and 18 assists.

At the beginning of the 2023 season, Chelsea received Felix on loan from Atletico. However, he was only able to score 4 goals in 20 games for Chelsea, which led to his being released from the team. The decision to loan the Portuguese striker to Barcelona was made by Atletico Madrid in the end.

After bringing on Felix, Barcelona also revealed that Cancelo had signed a loan contract with the club. The Catalan club published a photograph on their website that showed the Portuguese defender wearing his new shirt alongside the caption “Superhero.” It seems like The Flash has arrived.

At the beginning of the 2023 season, Cancelo was sent on loan from Manchester City to Bayern Munich. The Portuguese defender had trouble finding a new club because he was unable to compete for a position at the Bavarian club. In the end, he was pushed to join Barcelona by Manchester City because of their relationship with Barcelona.

The loan agreements for Felix and Cancelo with Barcelona do not include a buyout provision for either player. Eric Garcia, a midfielder for Barcelona, was loaned to Girona under a contract that did not include a buy-out clause. This move was made in the reverse direction. Real Betis paid 7.5 million pounds to acquire the rights to the young player Abde.

Ilkay Gundogan, Inigo Martinez, Oriol Romeu, Cancelo, and Felix were all successfully signed by Barcelona in the summer of 2023. On the other hand, they released Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba, Samuel Umtiti, Alex Collado, Nico Gonzalez, Franck Kessie, Ousmane Dembele, and Abde Ezzalzouli from their roster.

Barcelona has been given temporary possession of Pablo Torre, Sergino Dest, Clement Lenglet, Ansu Fati, and Eric Garcia.
