The Norwegian sensation netted an impressive 52 goals in various competitions, emulating the footsteps of one of the most prolific goal scorers of the 2000s.
It’s official: Erling Haaland has been crowned the recipient of the PFA Player of the Year award, a well-deserved recognition for his remarkable debut season with Manchester City.
Despite initial doubts surrounding his transition to the Premier League and whether he could replicate his astonishing Bundesliga form, the Norwegian sensation shattered records in the English top flight, becoming the highest goal scorer in a single Premier League season.
The former Borussia Dortmund star netted an astonishing 52 goals across all competitions for the Citizens, leading the club to a historic treble, clinching the Premier League, FA Cup, and the coveted UEFA Champions League title. While Guardiola’s side also secured a UEFA Super Cup triumph, they narrowly missed out on the Community Shield to Arsenal.
It was, therefore, no surprise to see Haaland receive the Player of the Year award, an honor that placed him in the same league as former Manchester United superstar Ruud van Nistelrooy. Both are now the only players in Premier League history to win the Player of the Year accolade in their debut season in England.
Erling Haaland also earned a spot in the Team of the Year but fell short of the Young Player of the Year award, which went to Bukayo Saka following his outstanding campaign with Arsenal.
Nevertheless, Haaland has wasted no time and has already made a strong start to the current season, scoring three goals in his first three league matches.
Up next for Haaland and his Manchester City side is a home match against Fulham. The Cottagers recently secured a 2-2 draw against Arsenal before triumphing over Tottenham in the Carabao Cup on penalties, indicating they are in good form. This upcoming game will be broadcast live on Saturday via Peacock, just before the international break.
