Txiki Begiristain, the sporting director of Manchester City, expressed his joy at Erling Haaland receiving the PFA Players’ Player of the Year award. Begiristain praised the £51.2 million man for his incredible debut season and lauded him as a world-class player.
In his maiden season at the Etihad Stadium, the 23-year-old set a Premier League goal-scoring record with an astonishing total of 36 goals. Haaland netted 52 goals in 53 matches across all competitions, including a treble. Some, like Jamie Carragher, believe he can continue to improve.
Txiki Begiristain showered praise on Erling Haaland after his PFA Players’ Player of the Year win, saying, “We are so delighted for Erling that he has won this award. His goalscoring record last season was obviously incredible and that alone marks him out as a special player.”
Apart from the prestigious PFA award, Begiristain highlighted Haaland’s impact both on and off the pitch for his team. He emphasized Haaland’s drive to improve further and described him as a world-class player and a valuable presence in the dressing room.
However, there is a belief that Haaland should have won both the PFA Players’ Player and Young Player of the Year awards. While Bukayo Saka, the eventual winner of the latter, had a remarkable campaign, comparing his achievements to those of the former Borussia Dortmund striker seems unjust. It remains surprising that Haaland did not clinch both trophies, considering his extraordinary individual season in the previous term.
