Even Manchester City’s superstar Erling Haaland can make a mistake, as he demonstrated by missing a penalty, despite the goalkeeper diving out of the way. The Premier League champions were facing a resilient Sheffield United side at Bramall Lane on Sunday when they were presented with a golden opportunity to take the lead from the penalty spot.
In the absence of Pep Guardiola, Manchester City had been working the ball brilliantly around Sheffield’s defense, resulting in Julian Alvarez making a dash to the byline in an attempt to set up Haaland.
However, Haaland’s chance was thwarted as John Egan’s outstretched arm blocked the ball, leaving the referee with no choice but to award a penalty.
Haaland took the responsibility for the penalty, sending Blades’ goalkeeper Wes Foderingham the wrong way. Unfortunately, the big Norwegian couldn’t find the target, and his shot struck the right-hand post, keeping the score level.
This moment served as a reminder that even the best can falter on occasion.
