Max Verstappen’s former performance engineer, Blake Hinsley, has suggested that a move from Red Bull to Mercedes could provide the Dutch driver with a new challenge and motivation, as he may become bored with consistently winning. Verstappen has been dominant in the 2023 Formula 1 season, winning multiple races by significant margins.
Hinsley believes that Verstappen’s goal has shifted to achieving perfection in every race, but with little competition, he might seek new challenges. Moving to Mercedes, even if the car is not immediately competitive, could provide Verstappen with fresh motivation.
However, such a move seems unlikely given the historical rivalry between Red Bull and Mercedes and the long-term contract Verstappen has with Red Bull until 2028. Additionally, Verstappen has previously indicated that he may consider retiring from Formula 1 in the future to explore other aspects of life.
Verstappen’s comments about wanting to balance his career with spending time with family and friends suggest that he may prioritize different experiences over continued success in Formula 1, although his career is far from over at just 25 years old.
