After a short period of negotiation and payment, Al-Nassr finally successfully recruited Cristiano Ronaldo’s compatriot from Portugal, FC Porto’s Otavio.
On the homepage, Al-Nassr announced the completion of the recruitment of midfielder Otavio from Porto. The price of the deal is about 60 million euros. Otavio will stay with the Mrsool Park team until the end of June 2026 and will be given the number 25 shirt, his old shirt number at Porto.
Otavio is 28 years old, born in Brazil but chose to play for Portugal. In 2010, he joined Internacional’s B team from Santa Cruz U20. After 2 years, the midfielder was introduced to the first team. After 45 games with 7 goals and 3 assists, Otavio convinced Porto to spend 2.5 million euros to recruit him to Dragao Stadium.
Arriving in Portugal, Otavio was initially loaned out for over a year at Vitoria Guimaraes. In the 2016/17 season, the 28-year-old midfielder returned to Porto and gradually became a mainstay at Dragao. He is appreciated for his passing ability, technique and speed. After 283 matches, Otavio contributed 31 goals and 75 assists, with Porto winning 3 Premier Liga, 3 Portuguese Cups and many other titles.
With Al-Nassr spending 60 million euros on Otavio, he has become the club’s most expensive rookie this summer, far ahead of other teammates such as Sadio Mane, Seko Fofana or Marcelo Brozovic. It is also important to know that since Ronaldo arrived in Saudi Arabia in January, clubs in Saudi Arabia have spent a lot of money to add to their squad. Al Nassr’s big rival Al Hilal has signed stars like Ruben Neves, Neymar and Kalidou Koulibaly. While the likes of Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante, and Fabinho have joined Al Ittihad.
Most recently, Al-Nassr was fortunate to have a ticket to play in the group stage of the AFC Champions League 2023/24 after defeating Shabab Al Ahli (UAE) in the play-off round. In this match, superstar Cristiano Ronaldo did not score, but Al-Nassr still defeated the opponent 4-2 to win tickets to continue.
