The Los Angeles Lakers have been one of the most active teams during the offseason.
Despite that, they haven’t filled out their roster just yet. After signing the likes of Taurean Prince, Gabe Vincent, Cam Reddish and Jaxson Hayes, and giving new deals to Rui Hachimura, D’Angelo Russell and, above all, Austin Reaves, they still need a center.
As a result, the Lakers are expanding their search to bring in a big man.
The Lakers’ roster currently consists of 13 players, and there is room for two more. Rob Pelinka himself has already confirmed that they are keeping an eye on the market, especially the center market. And that’s where Usman Garuba comes in.
The Spaniard was cut by Oklahoma, a team he was traded to via Atlanta in a deal involving five teams. The Thunder have a full roster and many expected him to be cut earlier.
In any case, Garuba’s contract has to be claimed within 48 hours (the deadline is this Wednesday) or he will become a free agent, which is possibly what the Lakers or other teams interested in him are hoping for.
Garuba is not a tall center, but the Lakers. can take advantage of his ability to create space in the zone, his ability to rebound and his great defensive skills.
There are also rumors that Garuba could end up landing in Dallas, along with Doncic and Irving, and that the Mavericks may cut JaVale McGee.
Regardless, the player isn’t in a hurry to know his next NBA destination because he is focused on the World Cup, and a strong showing could change his future.
