There were times last summer when the relationship between Barbara and Franke De Jong was particularly tense. Particularly, there were rumors that the Cam Nou team was pressured to let the player born in 1997 go in order to reduce the roster size, but he refused to do so. 

After everything, De Jong remained in Barca. The Dutch midfielder then made a significant contribution to aiding the team in winning La Liga 2022/23.

The agreement between De Jong and Barca will be revealed in the summer of 2026. However, Barca has decided to start negotiating with De Jong about a new contract going forward. 

The goal of this plan is not just to retain De Jong in the long run. Additionally, Barca wants to adjust De Jong’s salary in order to improve the team’s financial situation.

De Jong was intended to be an irreplaceable player in Barca’s midfield following the death of Ergo Buquet. The number 21 middle schooler is still committed to wearing the red and blue striped shirt for the time being.
