Ilkay Gundogan keeps winning awards as the new Barcelona midfielder accepts the German Player of the Year honor at the SportBILD gala.
The player has clearly demonstrated why he is one of this generation’s top midfielders after a phenomenal season with Manchester City, where he won the treble under Pep Guardiola.
Gundogan was also selected Manchester City’s captain for the 22–23 season, and the choice certainly paid off as he guided City to previously unheard-of triumph.
Throughout the entire season, he demonstrated his poise, deft passing, and press resistance, gaining plaudits from both fans and experts.
The German eventually completed a dream transfer to Catalonia after years of being hailed as the ideal Barcelona player.
The 32-year-old has now added the icing to the cake by winning this honor today. Last night, he made his first goal-contributing assist against Cadiz.
What was Gundogan’s response?
Gundogan, who was obviously honored, was joined at the gala by Robert Lewandowski, a current and former teammate from their time together at Borussia Dortmund.
Additionally, questions about Gundogan’s move to Barcelona and the involvement of the Polish striker were raised.
“His [Lewy’s] eyes were shining when he was talking about the club,” Gundogan remarked. He reassured me that it would be a wise decision.
Lewandowski’s 35th birthday is today, and since the two are so close, it is a special occasion for them to enjoy.
After a long separation, the two are back together and hope to continue their fantastic chemistry and lead Barcelona to further success this year.
