Dutchman Ryan Gravenberch played at Ajax under Erik ten Hag, who prioritizes familiarity with his Man United hires.
Ryan Gravenberch, a midfielder for Bayern Munich, is a target for Manchester United in a last-minute transfer.
Gravenberch, who was an Ajax player for United manager Erik ten Hag, has only had a minor role at Bayern since joining the league champions in the summer.
Gravenberch, 21, has drawn interest from Liverpool after the club missed out on Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, who both signed with Chelsea.
If Donny van de Beek goes, United, who has been searching for another midfielder, would have power to sign Gravenberch. Real Sociedad and United have spoken, and Van de Beek is free to leave permanently.
Last year, Gravenberch chose to join Bayern over United, but he only made six starts and ultimately lost his spot in the Netherlands team.
The January transfer window saw United sign Marcel Sabitzer on loan from Bayern, and the Austrian international scored three goals in 18 appearances to help his team win the League Cup.
Under Ten Hag, the majority of United’s acquisitions have played in the Netherlands. The Eredivisie featured players such Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen, Lisandro Martinez, Antony, Mason Mount, and Andre Onana.
For Ajax, Ten Hag coached Martinez, Antony, and Onana. Another midfielder United has been keeping an eye on, Sofyan Amrabat, was born in the Netherlands and played for Utrecht and Feyenoord.
Van van Beek, who has been left out of United’s first two matchday squads this season, is “looking for something else,” according to Ten Hag on Saturday.
Ten Hag stated, “We need athletes who are fully committed to our club. And while I wouldn’t say the players you just cited are, it’s clear that they are currently seeking for something else.
