The Man City’s defender almost certainly arrives at the Camp Nou

Reports suggest that Manchester City’s wantaway defender, Joao Cancelo, is nearing a move to Barcelona as the two clubs have entered the final stages of negotiations.

Cancelo is eager to join Barcelona during the summer transfer window following a challenging year at Manchester City, the reigning Premier League and Champions League champions.

The Portuguese star had a falling out with City manager Pep Guardiola last season and was subsequently loaned to German giants Bayern Munich. Although he returned for pre-season with Manchester City, Barcelona has been pursuing him throughout the summer, with a desire to bring Cancelo to the Nou Camp.

Negotiations between Manchester City and the La Liga champions are progressing, and a breakthrough in talks is anticipated soon, as Fabrizio Romano has reported.

Cancelo is prepared to make the move, having already agreed to personal terms with Barcelona as discussions regarding his transfer continue.

Barcelona has had a successful summer in the transfer market, already securing deals for former City captain Ilkay Gundogan, Oriol Romeu, and Inigo Martinez.

It is expected that Cancelo will complete his transfer to Barcelona this summer, with the club aiming to finalize the deal with Manchester City this week.

Although the 29-year-old still has four years remaining on his current contract at the Etihad, he does not appear to have a future within Guardiola’s squad. Cancelo has made 154 appearances for Manchester City since joining in 2019 and played a key role in the club’s two English top-flight title wins.

Manchester City has already strengthened their defense this summer with the signing of Josko Gvardiol from RB Leipzig.
