Prior to their La Liga match against Cadiz this weekend, Barcelona have disclosed that crucial defender and third captain Ronald Araujo has sustained a thigh injury.

The Uruguayan international had experienced some discomfort earlier this month, but he was cleared to play in the season-opening match against Getafe and did so without incident.

But it looks that he has recently suffered a new injury, one that may need him to at the very least miss the forthcoming match at the Montjuic Stadium against Cadiz.

“Ronald Araujo has a left femoral biceps injury. His availability will depend on how his condition changes, according to the club’s official statement.

Given how crucial Araujo is to the squad, this development is a setback for Xavi Hernandez and Barcelona.

The management had resorted to the Uruguayan to stand in as a full-back on the right side until the team found a new player because Jules Kounde was unwilling to play at right-back.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Araujo may miss a month of play, which would be a devastating setback for the Blaugrana.
