At Old Trafford tonight, Manchester United will face Wolverhampton Wanderers in their Premier League opener.
Despite the Red Devils’ inconsistent preseason, manager Erik ten Hag will be looking for a solid showing in the season opener.
Six players will be out of the lineup due to injuries and fitness concerns, but Ten Hag still has a quality roster to pick from.
Formation: 4-3-3
Predicted Line-up:
Andre Onana is set to make his competitive debut in goal for the Red Devils. The Cameroonian has already shown his quality on the ball and should be exciting to watch between the sticks.
In front of him, it should be the same backline from the 3-1 friendly win over Lens.
Diogo Dalot has fared much better than Wan-Bissaka over the past few matches. He scored with a stunning curling effort against Borussia Dortmund towards the end of last month. However, Wan-Bissaka had more consistent performances in defence, and United had plenty of attacking players.
Therefore, the English player should get the nod at right-back. Luke Shaw is an undisputed starter in the left-back role.
The same can be said for Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez in central defence. United are eyeing a new centre-back, but the duo are assured starters at the heart of the backline.
Casemiro will start the campaign in his customary number six role. He should have a new midfield partner in Mason Mount. Mount will feature ahead of Christian Eriksen in the number eight spot.
Antony is United’s best option on the right wing. Facundo Pellistri produced a lively performance in the final friendly against Athletic, but he is behind the Brazilian in the pecking order.
Bruno Fernandes is guaranteed to start in the number 10 role. The new captain should be accompanied by Alejandro Garnacho on the left wing after his fantastic showing versus Lens.
With Rasmus Hojlund unfit, Marcus Rashford looks set to lead the attack. Anthony Martial is back in training but is unlikely to start, having not played a single minute in pre-season.
