After and after Sunday night’s La Liga season-opening match between Barcelona and Getafe at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez, tempers were quite high.
Raphinha’s ejection in the first half following a careless foul on Gaston Alvarez proved to be a major setback for the Catalans in a game that was mired in controversy and fouls.
After the game ended in a scoreless draw, the Barcelona players and manager Xavi Hernandez did not hold back in criticizing the refereeing because there were more fouls than chances generated.
Exploding are Araujo and PedriEven though Raphinha’s dismissal was inevitable given that he had previously been cautioned once, the Barcelona players’ ire was understandably rising as they had already been subjected to a number of fouls before to Raphinha’s dismissal.
In this DAZN footage, midfielder Pedri and defender Ronald Araujo can be seen reacting angrily to referee Cesar Soto Grado after the Brazilian was dismissed.
They’ve committed four fouls, but not a single one got them booked, the Araujo can be heard stating to the linesman in the video. There is no whistle, yet they frequently strike us.
Pedri also spoke out and said, “They are fouling us on every play, and you expel us on the first instance?”
The midfielder didn’t hold back at that point because he was also talking with Getafe staff member Javier Vidal over why the previous chest barge on Ilkay Gundogan didn’t result in a card.
