Kevin de Bruyne is reportedly going to receive a scan on Monday to determine the severity of his most recent injury after limping off during Manchester City’s Premier League opener on Saturday. The scan is planned to take place on Monday.
The first game of the new season was played at Turf Moor, where reigning champion Manchester City cruised to a 3-0 victory over Burnley, a team who had just been promoted. When De Bruyne was taken out of the game for precautionary reasons during the first half, there was reason for concern.
The Belgian had to be replaced by Mateo Kovacic after he was unable to continue playing after experiencing what appeared to be a recurrence of a hamstring problem and collapsing in the 23rd minute.
According to the Athletic, City manager Pep Guardiola said after the game that it is suspected Kevin de Bruyne has worsened the same hamstring injury that halted his participation in the Champions League final. De Bruyne will now undergo a diagnostic on Monday.
During his postgame press conference on Friday, Pep Guardiola stated that “it depends on the magnitude of the injury but he will be out for a few weeks.”
Kevin de Bruyne is reportedly set to undergo a scan on a hamstring injury on Monday
“He is out of it. It is necessary for us to take stock, consult with the medical staff, and investigate what took transpired. He needs to take some time to relax, get better, and then come back.
After City’s players had secured European glory in Istanbul, they left for celebrations after winning the treble and summer vacations. During this time, the severity of his earlier hamstring ailment was mostly hidden from public view.
Although De Bruyne did not require surgery for the severe hamstring tear he experienced, he did require a significant amount of recuperation before being able to return to pre-season training.
Man City boss Pep Guardiola has already confirmed he expects De Bruyne to be missing for weeks
The 32-year-old player participated in a number of friendly warm-up games during City’s preseason tour; however, he will now miss weeks of the league’s opening matches and could miss a longer amount of time if exams indicate that the injury is more severe than initially assumed.
According to a preliminary evaluation conducted by Guardiola, De Bruyne will be sidelined for the Super Cup final on Wednesday against Sevilla as well as the English Premier League matches against Newcastle, Sheffield United, and West Ham.

Should the ailment to the Belgian playmaker continue for an even longer period of time, it is possible that City’s Champions League campaign, which starts in September, may start without him.
If this turns out to be the case, City may have no choice but to look elsewhere for a replacement midfielder given that the club is still in negotiations with West Ham on a potential trade for Lucas Paqueta.
