Anthony Davis agrees to record-breaking extension with Los Angeles Lakers

Only a few days had passed since Jaylen Brown signed the most lucrative contract in NBA history when Anthony Davis joined the Los Angeles Lakers and achieved an equally dreadful milestone.

The Los Angeles Lakers forward Anthony Davis has agreed to a new contract agreement worth $186 million over three years. He will keep playing for the Lakers through the year 2028 because he still has two years left on his prior contract.

AD will earn almost 62 million USD every season thanks to this new three-year contract, which gives him the largest yearly compensation in the history of the NBA.Prior to that, he still had a contract worth 84 million dollars that was two years old.

Along with LeBron James, Davis is the mainstay of the 2020 NBA championship squad and reached the Western finals last year. He averaged 26 points, 12.5 rebounds and 2 blocks last season.

AD used to have 4 times in the All-NBA No. 1 typical team. He has had five seasons averaging 25 points and two blocks – just less than Shaquille O’Neal and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

In the 2023 Playoffs, Davis became the third Lakers player to have 50 blocks in a series of post seasons, still behind O’Neal and Abdul-Jabbar.

The 30-year-old joined the Lakers from the New Orleans Pelicans after a blockbuster deal in 2019 and, along with James, helped bring home the 2020 NBA championship.

Davis’ contract renewal creates a bridge between the last days of LeBron James’s career and the future of the Purple Gold team. James is entering his 21st season and has a player option for the 2024-2025 season.

Anthony Davis isn’t the first name to nod to the Lakers this summer. They have renewed with Rui Hachimura, Gabe Vincent and Austin Reaves, all through 2025.
