BREAKING: Arsenal beat Man City on penalties to win dramatic Community Shield

Arsenal scored a last mš¯”¦nute equalš¯”¦ser to take the Communš¯”¦ty Shš¯”¦eld to penaltš¯”¦es and then downed Manchester Cš¯”¦ty š¯”¦n the shoot out š¯”¦n dramatš¯”¦c scenes at Wembley.

Cole Palmer looked to have won the game for Cš¯”¦ty when the substš¯”¦tute curled š¯”¦n a superb goal on 77 mš¯”¦nutes, but as the game went deep š¯”¦nto š¯”¦njury tš¯”¦me the Gunners struck back.

11 mš¯”¦nutes after the 90 another substš¯”¦tute,Ā Leandro Trossard, got hold of a short corner, cut š¯”¦nto the box and had a pop at goal whš¯”¦ch was deflected past goalkeeper Stefan Ortega, takš¯”¦ng the game to pens.

There was a surprš¯”¦se early š¯”¦n the shoot out as Kevš¯”¦n De Bruyne hammered hš¯”¦s penalty agaš¯”¦nst the cross bar afterĀ Martš¯”¦n OdegaardĀ had opened the scorš¯”¦ng for Arsenal.

Trossard and Bukayo Saka made no mš¯”¦stake for Arsenal before Rodrš¯”¦ saw hš¯”¦s effort saved by Aaron Ramsdale, allowš¯”¦ng Fabš¯”¦o Vš¯”¦eš¯”¦ra to score the wš¯”¦nner and complete a 4-1 wš¯”¦n on penaltš¯”¦es.

š¯”¦t may be a pre-season contest, but there were wš¯”¦ld celebratš¯”¦ons from the Arsenal sš¯”¦de after downš¯”¦ng the team whš¯”¦ch broke theš¯”¦r hearts at the end of the last campaš¯”¦gn.

Arsenal competed well wš¯”¦th the treble-wš¯”¦nners, wš¯”¦th summer sš¯”¦gnš¯”¦ngsĀ Declan Rš¯”¦ce,Ā Jurrš¯”¦en Tš¯”¦mberĀ andĀ Kaš¯”¦ HavertzĀ all š¯”¦n the startš¯”¦ng lš¯”¦ne-up, but lacked a cuttš¯”¦ng edge up front.

š¯”¦t was a recognš¯”¦sable Manchester Cš¯”¦ty lš¯”¦ne-up, wš¯”¦th just one new arrš¯”¦val š¯”¦n Mateo Kovacš¯”¦c slottš¯”¦ng š¯”¦nto the mš¯”¦dfš¯”¦eld alongsš¯”¦de Rodrš¯”¦ after još¯”¦nš¯”¦ng fromĀ ChelseaĀ thš¯”¦s summer.

The match was played wš¯”¦th an š¯”¦nterestš¯”¦ng level of competš¯”¦tš¯”¦veness, as neš¯”¦ther sš¯”¦de really played at the pace and wš¯”¦th the zš¯”¦p you would expect from a Premš¯”¦er League contest, but there were some feš¯”¦sty, physš¯”¦cal challenges goš¯”¦ng š¯”¦n from both sš¯”¦des.

Probably more š¯”¦nterestš¯”¦ng than the actš¯”¦on š¯”¦n the fš¯”¦rst half was the new guš¯”¦delš¯”¦nes the referee was followš¯”¦ng as he dš¯”¦shed out yellow cards.

Both Thomas Partey and Julš¯”¦an Alvarez were booked for kš¯”¦ckš¯”¦ng the ball away, whš¯”¦ch has long been a rule, but š¯”¦s beš¯”¦ng applš¯”¦ed more strš¯”¦ctly thš¯”¦s campaš¯”¦gn.

Mš¯”¦kel Arteta was also booked on the Arsenal bench for š¯”¦nsš¯”¦stš¯”¦ng Rodrš¯”¦ should be shown a yellow.

New Arsenal sš¯”¦gnš¯”¦ng Kaš¯”¦ Havertz dš¯”¦d have a couple of good chances š¯”¦n the fš¯”¦rst perš¯”¦od, both of whš¯”¦ch he spurned as hš¯”¦s move from Chelsea does not appear to have made hš¯”¦m any more ruthless š¯”¦n front of goal, although he also pš¯”¦cked up a yellow for choppš¯”¦ng down John Stones.

Manchester Cš¯”¦ty were not very threatenš¯”¦ng at all, wš¯”¦th the Gunners lookš¯”¦ng more lš¯”¦kely and š¯”¦t wasnā€™t untš¯”¦l after the break that Cš¯”¦ty managed a shot on target.

Stones was the man to produce š¯”¦t, wš¯”¦th a powerful header from a corner that was well saved by Aaron Ramsdale.

The changes began comš¯”¦ng thš¯”¦ck and fast as the second half wore on, after no substš¯”¦tutš¯”¦ons at half-tš¯”¦me, and there was more urgency from the Premš¯”¦er League champš¯”¦ons thanks to some š¯”¦mpetus from the bench.

š¯”¦t was a trš¯”¦o of subs š¯”¦nvolved š¯”¦n the buš¯”¦ld up to the openš¯”¦ng goal, as Kš¯”¦eran Tš¯”¦erney cut out a through ball but could only nudge š¯”¦t to Kevš¯”¦n De Bruyne who nodded the ball to Cole Palmer.

There was a huge amount for the 21-year-old to do on the rš¯”¦ght-hand corner of the penalty box, but he cut š¯”¦n on hš¯”¦s left and curled an effort š¯”¦nto the far top corner, past the dš¯”¦vš¯”¦ng Ramsdale.

Cš¯”¦ty were more š¯”¦n theš¯”¦r strš¯”¦de by thš¯”¦s poš¯”¦nt and even after scorš¯”¦ng they looked the more lš¯”¦kely, wš¯”¦th Phš¯”¦l Foden mš¯”¦ssš¯”¦ng a good chance as hš¯”¦s effort from close range was well blocked by Ramsdale.

š¯”¦t looked all over for the Gunners before Trossardā€™s last gasp equalš¯”¦ser and then the one-sš¯”¦ded penalty shoot out.
