As Saudi Arabia looks to consolidate their position as the dominant force in world football, the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia has targeted four major signings for the year 2024.
When he signed an eye-popping deal with Al Nassr in December at a staggering 173 million pounds sterling per year, Cristiano Ronaldo became the face of the Saudi Professional League.
That set the ball rolling for the proceedings, and ever since then, a flood of world-class players who are currently employed by major clubs have signed up to take part.
The transfer includes the likes of celebrities such as Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante, Ruben Neves, Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Kalidou Koulibaly, Edouard Mendy, Marcelo Brozovic, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Allan Saint-Maximin, Alex Telles, and Riyad Mahrez.
The PIF clubs, which include Al Ittihad, Al Nassr, Al Ahli, and Al Hilal, appear to have an unrestricted transfer budget and are making plans for further large acquisitions heading into the 2024/25 season.
According to the journalist Rudy Galetti, who works for TV Dello Sport and Sky Sport Italia, the SPL is seeking to have the league “crowded with football stars” in the future.
Mo Salah, Neymar, Kevin De Bruyne, and Luka Modric are at the very top of their wish list, and they have set their sights on signing all four of them.
A Saudi Arabian football official named Hafez Al-Medlej has called on the Saudi Arabian football league to work on bringing Liverpool star Mohamed Salah into the league. Salah has recently signed a contract extension with the club, although he has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia.
According to what Al-Medlej told Koura, “We also need to begin working on the signing of Mohamed Salah because he is overwhelmingly popular in both the Arab world and in Europe.”
“I think Salah still has records to break with Liverpool, so I hope that even if he doesn’t come now, he will in the future.”
It was said that Modric, who is now 37 years old, was offered one of the “biggest ever proposals in football” to relocate to Saudi Arabia this summer; however, he decided to continue his career with Real.
Al Hilal, the Saudi Arabian club that made a world-record bid of £259 million for compatriot Kylian Mbappe, is reportedly interested in signing Neymar. However, there has been no indication on any links to De Bruyne.
The Frenchman was presented with a preposterous wage offer of 1.65 million pounds each day, but he chose to reject the lucrative offer instead.
