The president of Inter Miami, where Lionel Messi now plays, has stated that former Barcelona defender Jordi Alba will be joining the club’s ranks to play alongside Messi at Inter Miami.
The left-back, who is now 34 years old, made his debut with Barcelona at the end of the previous season. Prior to that, he had played more than 450 games for the club, during which time he had won the Champions League in 2015, six La Liga titles, five Copa del Rey trophies, and four Super Cups. Both the Spanish Cup and the World Club Championship will be played.
Alba, who has played for Spain on more than 90 occasions, will be joining a formidable former Barcelona side at Inter Miami. Messi and Sergio Busquets have already signed with the club, and Alba will be joining them.
“He has signed a contract and will arrive in the next few days. Tata (coach Gerardo Martino) is counting on him,” Jorge Mas said Tuesday in an interview with TyC Sports.
Miami is also looking to sign another former Barcelona player, Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez, who plays for Gremio in Brazil. Mas says talks have taken place but “he is a Gremio player and I respect that”.
The president of the MLS team also confirmed the arrival of Paraguayan midfielder Diego Gomez from Libertad, adding that they have officially contacted Argentina’s Racing Club to inquire about Tomas Aviles.
