Andre Onana finally got to put on his Manchester United custodian gloves for the first time after meeting his new teammates and getting stuck into a training session.

On Thursday, the Cameroonian completed his £47 million transfer from Inter Milan, who reportedly had a contract offer rejected by his predecessor David de Gea, and has had a whirlwind few days of flying and performing media duties for his new team.

Onana arrived from Italy on Tuesday evening, had a medical at Carrington the next day, and flew out on Friday to join Erik ten Hag’s first-team on their pre-season tour of America.

The club’s new number one fills the void left by De Gea between the posts and will have just under a month to adjust to his new surroundings before the club’s first Premier League match on August 14.

Despite the long journey, Onana was eager to get into training as soon as he arrived in New Jersey, and he enjoyed his first training session alongside United’s stars at the Pingry School training facility.

On Friday, Andre Onana began his first training session as a Manchester United player.

After arriving in New Jersey, Onana was put through a series of custodian drills in the sun.

Back-up custodian Dean Henderson (right), who is set to join Nottingham Forest, joined United’s new number one (left).

The 27-year-old took part in a light session in the sun and worked on individual drills with goalkeeping coaches alongside other members.

Dean Henderson, the club’s backup custodian, worked alongside the club’s new star signing and got a first-hand look at Onana, possibly wondering what qualities his counterpart possesses ahead of himself.

Henderson was raised in the United academy but is set to end his Red Devils career with a move to Nottingham Forest in the works.

Anthony Elanga, a 21-year-old winger, is also expected to join after the two clubs agreed a £15 million deal.

Meanwhile, Onana was all smiles as he put on a United training top for the first time and went through basic drills as he eases back into practise after flying thousands of miles in the previous few days.

Onana’s boots had already been arranged by United’s kit team, and he chose an orange pair of Adidas predators to show off his skills in front of the cameras.

Close-range balls were pelted in as Onana produced numerous impressive reflex stops while working on his distribution.

Onana donned a Manchester United training top for the first time and could make his debut on Saturday.

After previously working together at Ajax, United manager Erik ten Hag (left) was overjoyed to get his new custodian (right).

Onana (left) appeared at ease as he settled into his new team colours as United ramped up their pre-season preparations.

United were eager to sign their new custodian due to his ball-laying abilities, which Ten Hag values in his number one and which De Gea struggled with prior to his release.

Onana’s aerial dominance was also put to the test by the coaching staff, who had him work on claiming the ball in the air while a makeshift defender occupied space in front of him.

After training, adoring United fans waited for Onana, who obliged by signing autographs and posing for photos.

He could make his club debut against Arsenal in a friendly at the MetLife Stadium on Friday, as the Premier League rivals ramp up their preseason preparations.
