After all, Man Utd’s second awaited deal this summer has been activated.
Man Utd homepage officially announced the signature of Andre Onana.
” Onana joined Manchester United on a contract until June 2028, with the option to extend for a further year. The Cameroonian goalkeeper kept 104 clean sheets in 255 club appearances.
Last season, Onana won the Coppa Italia and had the most clean sheets in the Champions League,” Man Utd’s announcement read.
According to The Athletic, Man United spent 51 million euros with 4 million euros in surcharges to convince Inter Milan to let go. Onana became the most expensive goalkeeper in the history of the Red Devils, and the third most expensive in the world, behind Kepa Arrizabalaga (80 million euros) and Alisson Becker (62.5 million euros).
Speaking at the launch, Onana said: “Joining Man United is a great honor and I have worked hard all my life to get to this moment, overcoming many obstacles along the way.
Stepping out onto the Old Trafford pitch, defending the goal and contributing to the team will be an amazing experience like never before. This is the beginning of a new journey for me, with new teammates and new ambitions to fight for glory.
Manchester United have a long history of excellent goalkeepers, and I will now dedicate everything to creating my own legacy in the years to come.
I am very excited for the opportunity to work with Erik ten Hag again, and can’t wait to contribute to the success I know he is determined to contribute at this great football club.”
Director of football, John Murtough, confirmed: “Andre is United’s first choice as a goalkeeper with exceptional skill and personality. He is one of the best goalkeepers in the world and at 27, Onana can grow even more in the years to come.”

Onana is Man Utd’s second rookie this summer, after Mason Mount. With Onana, the game of the Red Devils promises to change completely. Last season, he was considered one of the best goalkeepers in the Champions League.
Accordingly, Onana had a total of 47 saves along with 407 accurate passes and 8 clean sheets. The former Ajax star also impressed with 14 times to prevent cross situations and save the expected 7.6 goals (xG).
Of all the goalkeepers who participated in the Champions League last season, no one could match Onana in all five parameters mentioned above. David de Gea’s poor footwork caused him to leave and Onana was the perfect replacement.
In today’s football, attacks often start from the goalkeeper and Onana’s distribution will help elevate Man Utd’s play. Compared to the Premier League, Onana’s accuracy in long passes must be ranked 3rd for goalkeepers who have played 15 games or more.
After completing the debut of the Red Devils, Onana immediately took a flight to the US. He will meet coach Erik ten Hag and new teammates in the country of flags. If there are no surprises, the former Inter Milan goalkeeper will immediately put on his gloves to face Arsenal this weekend.
