Extremely impressed with Mohamed Salah’s watch collection

Mo Salah may or may not agree, but it appears that a few luxury items are required if you want to make a lot of money as a footballer. I’m sure every young player gets this list when they sign their first professional contract: a little leather wash bag with a monogram, something distressed from Amiri, a massive pair of sneakers, and a car that moves so, so fast. Really, it was too fast. Balenciaga, of course, and the annual salary of a brain surgeon or typical TikTok celebrity tattooed on your wrist.

Some footballers start a collection with the shiniest watch they can find, but Mo Salah chooses his watches with surprising care. The Liverpool star’s watches are showy on the field yet understated off the field. But there’s still a lot to look at.

Salah’s amazing watch collection will be discussed, which includes some of the most intricate complications in fine watchmaking as well as award-winning APs.

Ulysse Nardin Freak Lab 18k white gold

Despite having to limp off in the first half, Mo Salah was able to celebrate Liverpool’s first FA Cup victory. He chose the Ulysse Nardin Freak Lab in 18k white gold (Reference: 2100-138, which is clearly quite significant) for that key wrist shot, with his hand on that renowned antique trophy and the normal winner’s smile on his face.

The Freak Lab is a tourbillon with an appealing tourbillon design. It is one of only 99 pieces made and is noted for its technical design and performance. The brand refers to it as a “laboratory on the wrist.” The watch features an alligator strap, a 45 mm white gold case, and a spinning 7-day flying carousel on the dial. The Freak has been a successful line since its debut in 2001. It was the first watch to incorporate silicon technology, which had to be the deciding factor for Mo.

Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore customised in Liverpool colours

It turns out that being the finest Premier League football player has its advantages. When he accepted his Player of the Year award from the Football Writers Association, Salah wore a very special AP Royal Oak Offshore. We can be certain that it was designed specifically for Salah, Jurgen Klopp, and the rest of their squad to celebrate winning the Premier League in 2020. Isn’t that fantastic?

The Offshore was a sportier version of AP’s famed Royal Oak when it was released in 1993. It had a larger 42mm case and a MÉGA-TAPISSERIE” dial with a beautiful textured surface and a house signature.

Roger Dubuis Excalibur Spider Pirelli-Skeleton RDDBEX0747

That is a large boy. The Spider Pirelli-Skeleton sports a large 45mm titanium case that is waterproof to 50 meters. It boasts a sophisticated exposed Geneva movement with a star-shaped bridge and is powered by a tiny rotor. It’s one of the most complex automated movements ever created for a watch. The rubber inlay on the strap of the watch is made from championship-winning tires used in real races. As you might expect, this was done in partnership with Pirelli. That’s… nice?

Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Concept Flying Tourbillon GMT

Salah donned a favorite outfit to celebrate the team’s first Champions League victory after their incredible comeback against Barcelona (“corner taken quickly to ORIIGISBbvvsgxa22gqaavsvzz!!! is burned in my brain forever”) and relatively simple win against Tottenham. The Royal Oak Concept Flying Tourbillon is AP’s take on a high-performance sports watch. It is said that Gerald Genta, himself a legend, was inspired by the helmets worn by deep sea divers and built the watch’s iconic octagonal case in a single night. The case is constructed of sand-blasted titanium and black ceramic, and it has a 10-day power reserve.

Hublot Big Bang Unico Sapphire

The sapphire Big Bang by Hublot is a literal interpretation of the term “skeleton watch.” The watch’s glass case is crafted from a top-secret translucent material known as “synthetic sapphire,” allowing the inner workings to be viewed from any angle. The entire sapphire case, from the centre to the bezel, is carved from a single crystal and polished to a mirror finish. Due to its complexity, production of this unique chromo is limited to just 500 units. This is consistent with Salah’s penchant for extreme and rare sports watches.

The Liverpool FC attacker Mo Salah has been spotted in some bizarre outfits that are more futuristic and cutting-edge than pricey and robust. Salah wore an Ulysse Nardin watch from the “Laboratory on the wrist” Freak line in a 2017 picture shoot for a promotion, matching his Liverpool jersey. Now for the scientific bit: The Freak is driven by a complex “anchor escapement” that uses air friction to stabilize a succession of nickel mass components and tiny blades. Neither do I, but I admire how Salah’s pick hints to his unconventional sense of style.

Urwerk-105 CT Streamliner

Salah also owns an Urwerk-105 CT Streamliner, demonstrating that his interest in timepieces extends beyond mere showmanship and into the realm of design and technical achievement. The Streamliner was styled after New York City’s art deco towers. There isn’t even a knob to adjust it. A clasp on the eight-sided cover slides open to reveal the “wandering hours” mechanism. The designers state, “When it is closed, it looks simple, with only the time showing.” “Remove the covering to reveal a world of cool, efficient metal.”
